Behind the Chair: What I’m Currently Loving | May Edition
There’s always something super inspiring to me behind the chair in every season. The conversations change, the trends evolve, and even the little everyday rituals start to change slightly. Lately, I’ve been into beauty and style that feels effortless, elevated, and realistic for everyday life. Mostly healthy hair, glowy skin, simple fashion, and routines that make long salon days feel a little more grounded.
Here’s a little peek into what I’m currently obsessed with lately inside the salon and outside of it.
Currently Loving: Fashion
This season feels very relaxed but put together. I’ve been obsessed with pieces that feel effortless while still professional enough for long days behind the chair.
Right now I’m loving:
Tokyo Sambas and jelly flats
Havianas flip flops for casual summer days
Colored Square Aviators & Retro sunglasses
Silk & Linen pants (think Aritzia lodge pant)
Long trouser shorts
Baggy overalls styled with basics
Mini skirts with oversized button-downs
Neutral linen sets
Blazer vests layered over simple tanks
Elevated basics that can mix and match easily
Mixed metals in jewelry instead of everything perfectly matching
I feel like fashion lately is less about looking overly styled and more about looking comfortable, confident, and naturally pulled together.
Currently Loving: Hair
Healthy hair continues to completely lead the conversation behind the chair lately.
I’m seeing more women move away from harsh contrast and high-maintenance color and toward softer, more dimensional hair that still feels luxurious and expensive.
The trends I’ve been loving most:
Dimensional color that grows out seamlessly
Expensive shine
Golden blondes that feel warm and soft
Rich brunettes with subtle dimension
Healthy hair > over-processed hair
Effortless blowouts with movement
More focus on scalp care and long-term hair health
The overall vibe feels softer, healthier, and much more wearable in real life.
Currently Loving: Makeup + Beauty
Beauty lately feels much more skin-focused than full glam and I can’t get enough of it.
I’ve been loving makeup that enhances instead of covers:
Dewy makeup
The Ilia bronzer stick
Cream blushes from brands like Rhode, Merit, Tower 28, and Westman Atelier
Rhode lip gloss treatments
Soft brown and rosy lip liners
Glowy skin instead of heavy full-coverage makeup
I’ve also been prioritizing skincare treatments more consistently this year:
Monthly hydrafacials
Microneedling
Gentle peels
Treatments focused on long-term skin health instead of quick fixes
A few skincare products I keep reaching for lately:
Naturium Multi-Bright Milky Toner
Byoma Hydrate + Plump products
Ultraceuticals Gel Cleanser
Cerave hydration lotion (keeping it simple)
And of course, one of my favorite “beauty” habits lately have been my spray tans.
• Loving Tan 2 Hour Express Platinum
• Lux Unfiltered hydrating cream Santal
Sometimes it really is the little things that make you feel refreshed and confident.
Currently Loving: Hair Products
A few products I keep reaching for constantly behind the chair and at home:
Hair masks focused on moisture and repair
Roz Milk Hair Serum
The Aveda Botanical Repair line
The Kérastase Première line
Redken shades EQ glosses
Healthy shine and repair are definitely the focus right now.
Currently Loving: Body + Fragrance
The products making everyday routines feel a little more elevated lately:
Salt & Stone body wash and body mist
Le Labo Santal 33
The Glossier signature scent
XO KHLOE thanks to Paige DeSorbo who influenced me to try
I’ve definitely been loving the warm, clean scents that feel soft but still memorable.
Current Rituals Lately
Lately I’ve realized how much I value routines that make me feel more myself before long salon days.
My current favorites:
Banana oat milk lattes
Sea Moss gel and Coconut Cult in the mornings
6 a.m. Sculpt classes at CorePower Yoga
Shake plate & Melissa Wood 10 minute am routine
My Therabody red light mask
Walks around the lake whenever I can fit them in
Going to the gym with Liv
Biking with the fam
Farmers markets on the weekends
Drake, Noah Khan, Leon & Emo music on repeat
Podcasts while doing house chores include: Giggly Squad, Good Hang, Therapuss, & The World’s First Podcast are my OG favs
Nothing overly complicated — just small things that help me feel better physically and mentally going into long weeks.
Things I’m Into Right Now
Healthy, expensive-looking hair
Glowy skin
Effortless beauty
Elevated basics
Lower-maintenance color
Soft femininity
Wellness routines that actually feel realistic
Beauty that works in everyday life
Things I’m Not So Obsessed With
Overcomplicated beauty routines
Harsh grow-out lines
Overly glam makeup
Trends that damage hair health
Feeling like beauty has to look “perfect”
I think women are craving simplicity and confidence more than perfection right now, and honestly, I completely understand why.
One of my favorite parts of being behind the chair is realizing beauty is rarely just about beauty. Most of the time it’s about confidence, identity, feeling refreshed, and reconnecting with yourself again, even in small ways.
And lately, these are a few of the things inspiring me most.
