Behind the Chair: The Quiet Power of Loyal Women

There’s something about the salon chair that always turns into a therapy session.

Not the dramatic kind — the honest kind.

The kind where women start talking about friendships. About loyalty. About who’s still in their life and who quietly faded away.

Lately and by lately I mean since 2023 I’ve noticed something interesting.

The older we get, the smaller our circles become.

And not because we don’t love people. Not because we’ve become closed off. But because we’ve learned the difference between people who are around you and people who are truly rooting for you.

Girlhood starts out pretty big.

Sleepovers, group chats, big friend groups where everyone feels included. You grow up thinking that circle will stay exactly the same.

But life has a way of refining things. Thankfully.

Careers happen. Families happen. Personal growth happens (if you’re not a narcissist). And suddenly you start realizing that loyalty — real loyalty — is actually rare.

Behind the chair I hear women say it all the time: “My circle is smaller than it used to be.”

And to be honest? That’s not a bad thing.

Because when you start surrounding yourself with women who are confident in their own lives, something shifts. They clap when you win. They encourage you when you doubt yourself. They don’t compete with your growth — they celebrate it.

The truth is, people who struggle to support you are often struggling with themselves. And once you realize that, you stop taking it personally.

You start protecting your energy.

You start choosing friendships that feel steady, genuine, and easy.

The kind where loyalty isn’t something you question.

At this stage of life, I’ve learned that girlhood doesn’t disappear as we get older. It just evolves. It becomes quieter. Stronger. More intentional. And the women who stay in your corner? Those are the ones worth holding onto.

Girls girl for life.
